FAQ’s

 

Below is a list of things you may want to pack.  If you forget or lose something, most things can be purchased here in Jaco. 

What to Bring?: 

o   Sunscreen – 30spf or higher.  Trust us, you’ll need it.

o   Sunglasses

o   Hat/visor

o   Flip flops/beach shoes

o   Bathing suits

o   Board (surf) shorts (guys)

o   Camera

o   Hiking shoes/sandals

o   Passport (keep your original locked in your room, and carry a photocopy with you)

o   ATM card

o   Medication (most medications can be purchased in the pharmacies in town, without a prescription)

o   Surfboard:  only if you are an advanced/expert surfer.  If you are a beginner, Easy Riders supplies your board.    Please check with your airline regarding the extra charge to check your board on the airplane.

o   Anything you absolutely cannot live without. 

Type of clothing to bring:

          Think Beach!  Warm, tropical beach wear.  The town is laid back and casual. Multiple bathing suits, flip flops, sandals, shorts, tank tops, t-shirts, casual beach dresses/skirts.  But, if you want to go out at night, anything from beach wear to club wear is acceptable.  Bring a jacket or pants only for time in the airport, San Jose, the mountains, etc.  Not necessary at the beach.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: 

v Where is Easy Riders Surf School located?

Easy Riders Surf School is located on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, in the developed resort town of Jaco (pronounced “Ha- Co”).  It is the closest, most developed beach town from the capital city of  San Jose. 

v Is airfare included in the price?

No, airfare is NOT included in Easy Riders package price.  You need to book your own airfare.  We recommend checking out www.kayak.com to search for airfare. 

v How do I get to Easy Riders Surf School?

Book your airfare into Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose, Costa Rica.   Just send us your itinerary and we will have someone waiting for you at the airport.  It takes approximately 1 hr & 45 minutes to drive to Jaco. 

v What is your PAYMENT & CANCELLATION policy?

We accept major credit cards, e-checks, and bank to bank transfers through Paypal.    We require a $200 NON-REFUNDABLE deposit PER PERSON upon reservation.  The balance is due upon arrival to Easy Riders Surf School. 

v Are there set dates for camps?

No, you can attend lessons or surf camps at any time of the year.  Just contact us with the dates you want to come. 

v What kind of amenities does Jaco have?

Jaco is a very developed town, by Costa Rican standards.  There are multiple grocery stores, banks, restaurants, bars, pharmacies, internet café’s, hotels, souvenir shops, and surf/ding repair shops.  Almost everything is within walking distance, or a taxi ride is usually a dollar or two to get from one end of town to the other.

v What is the weather like in Jaco?

Costa Rica typically has two seasons.  The “dry season” is from January to May.  The rest of the year is technically the “green season”, with October being the rainiest.  But, despite the “rainy period”, there are (on average) five hours of sun during the “rainy” months and eight hours or more of sun during the “dry” months.  The typical “rainy” day starts off sunny and pleasurable, with rain in the late afternoon or night.  The average humidity is 85%.

v What time of the year is best to come and surf?

Jaco is known for its year-round consistency.  There are good waves to be had at any time of the year, so come down and visit us when it is convenient for you. 

v What if I have NEVER surfed before?

Most people who we teach have NEVER surfed before.  No matter what your level of experience, we have a program for you.   Even if your group has different levels of surfing experience, we will customize your surf vacation, whether you are a novice, or an expert surfer looking for a local guide. 

v Are there any age restrictions?

Easy Riders Surf School has no age restrictions.  We have taught children as young as 5 to surf, and adults into their 60’s.  Most of our students are teens and people in their 20’s through their 50’s.  We will customize your surf vacation, no matter what your age. 

v I am by myself.  Can I still come to Easy Riders Surf Camp or do I need to be with a group?

We can accommodate any size group, from one person to large groups.  Just contact us to let us know. 

v How good of a swimmer do I have to be?

As long as you can swim with your head above water, you should be okay.  You will always have an instructor with you. 

v What is a typical day like during surf camp?

Daily schedules will vary depending on tides, wave size, and weather conditions.

Is there anything I can do to get in shape to prepare for surfing?
